Emergency Plumber in Salt Lake City

A broken pipe, backed up sewer or leaking water heater across the floor can’t wait for a regular appointment. Call Millcreek Plumbing at (801) 277-3342 any time, day or night, and pick the option to speak with our staff. A member of our dispatch team answers calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays. They’ll help you stop the damage to your property over the phone, and help determine if you need emergency plumbing in Salt Lake City ASAP.

What Counts as a Plumbing Emergency?

The simplest way is to see if water or sewage is actively damaging your home, and you can’t stop it yourself.

Say your toilet backs up every time you flush. That’s a real problem, but you can contain it by not flushing. But water spraying inside the wall, or coming through the ceiling is an emergency, because it’s doing damage every minute until someone shuts it off.

Call us right away if you’re dealing with any of these situations:

  • Water is spreading across the floor, or coming through the ceiling
  • There’s a burst pipe or frozen pipe that has split
  • Sewage is coming up through a floor drain, bathtub or toilet
  • Water heater is leaking and there’s no floor drain nearby
  • No water to the entire house

If you smell gas: leave the house immediately and call the Enbridge Gas emergency line, or 911 from outside the property. Our plumbers don’t do gas line repairs during emergency hours, so once the gas company has cleared the property, call us and we’ll get you on our schedule first thing in the morning.

Our Emergency Plumbing Services

Our trucks and vans carry the most common repair parts, so a lot of emergency repairs can be done on the first visit. Late at night or on weekends, when the plumbing supply houses close, we’re limited to using what’s on our truck. So if your specific repair needs a special part, we’ll make a temporary fix to stop the damage, and then come back to finish the job once we have the right part.

What to Do Before We Get There

Shut off your main water valve: In most Salt Lake area homes, the main shutoff is either at the front of the house, or in the basement. Here’s a quick way to find it: look for your water meter out front, and then draw a straight line from that meter back to the house. The main shutoff is usually right where that line meets the wall. Turn it clockwise until it stops.

Where to shut off your main water valve

If it doesn’t budge, call us. We can talk through some of the other options, like the stop and waste valve in your yard, or getting the city to shut off the curb stop.

If your water heater is leaking: close the cold water valve on top of the tank, then turn off the gas control or switch the breaker off if it’s an electric unit.

If sewage is backing up: stop using water in the house. Every flush, shower and load of laundry ends up coming out from the lowest drain. Keep kids and pets away from it.
Take photos: pictures of the problem help our dispatcher figure out what’s going on, and they’re useful if you file an insurance claim later.

Why Call Millcreek Plumbing in an Emergency

  • Our own dispatchers answer 24/7. That means every night, weekend and holiday, including Christmas Eve.
  • An upfront price before any work starts. Emergency service costs more than a regular appointment. But we use flat-rate pricing, not an hourly meter, and your plumber gives you the price and gets your approval before starting any work. No surprise bill at the end.
  • Honest advice about whether it can wait. If shutting off the water and waiting until morning will save you money without risking more damage to the property, we’ll tell you.
  • Family-owned since 2002, not a franchise. Millcreek Plumbing is owned by brothers Dan and Jordan Beesley. And for a lot of those years, Dan and Jordan were the ones taking the late-night calls themselves.
  • No commission. Our plumbers don’t work on commission, so an emergency visit is about stopping the damage and fixing what’s broken.
  • Licensed, bonded and insured. Utah DOPL #5969185-5501.
  • Financing available. Emergencies don’t wait for payday. We offer financing options to help spread out the cost of a bigger repair.

Property Managers, HOAs and Rental Owners

In a single family home, a sewer backup can usually be contained by having everyone stop using the water. But in a multi-unit building, you can’t knock on everyone’s door to ask all the tenants to stop flushing. That’s why we prioritize emergency sewer and water main calls for property managers, HOAs and rental owners. Call 801-277-3342 and let dispatch know it’s a multi-unit building.

A 10:45pm sewer backup in a three-story building. A property management company called late on a weeknight: a tenant in a ground-floor unit in Salt Lake City had water coming out from the base of the toilet. We pulled the toilet, ran a camera down the line and cleared it that night. The camera showed roots in the line, so we worked out a repair plan, got the HOA’s approval, and came back two days later to fix the sewer line for good.

A nail through a water line on a Saturday night. A remodeler working in a home hit a PEX water line with a brad nailer, and water started spraying everywhere. Our dispatcher walked them through shutting off the water, and our plumber headed over and repaired the line. The homeowner had water back on that same night.

A basement sewer backup in Davis County. A couple called at 7am on a Friday with sewage backing up into their basement. A plumber was there by 9am to clear the line, and we’re returning to repair the sewer line itself.

Water on the floor? Don’t wait it out.

Shut off the water if you can, then call Millcreek Plumbing at 801-277-3342. We answer 24/7.

Emergency Plumbing FAQs

Call Millcreek Plumbing at (801) 277-3342. When sewage comes up through a drain, the clog is most likely in your own sewer line, not the city’s portion. Some newer homes have a backwater valve that keeps city sewage from coming back into the house. Stop using water and call us immediately. If the line needs more than clearing, learn more about our sewer line repair.

Close the cold water valve that’s on the top of the tank, and then turn off the gas or power to the unit and call us. If there’s a floor drain right next to the water heater, we may be able to help you contain it over the phone. Learn about our hot water heater service options.

Yes- but first shut off the main water valve and call us. See our pipe repair and replacement page for more on how we fix damaged lines.

Sometimes it can, and we’ll tell you either way. A loose faucet, a running or clogged toilet in a home with another bathroom can usually wait. In a single family home, even a sewer backup can possibly be contained overnight by not using any water, which will save you the after-hours charge. But water spreading across the floor or coming through a ceiling shouldn’t wait.

Yes, services outside our regular hours cost more than a weekday appointment, and we’d rather tell you that up front. We use flat rate pricing, and your plumber will give you the price and get your approval first before any work starts.

It depends on the time of day, and what’s going on. When you call us, our friendly dispatcher will help you stop any further damage first, and then check to see who’s available and give you an honest time frame.

Yes. our dispatchers will answer your call any day of the year, including Christmas eve and Pioneer Day.
